The 84-inch Nokia N96

I just love to hate the Nokia N96 and that's not because of the dodgy camera button only. Specs wise the N96 is an engineer marvel with every mainstream radio possible built in, plus a 2.8 inch screen, kickstand and Tv Out. This is where all the fun starts. The 2.8 inch screen is bright and crisp but what if a 84 inch display runs the show? The Tv Out cable included in the N96's box is all you need apart from a really big screen or a projector. It only takes 10 seconds to hook up the N96 with the projector and signal sync. The built in accelerometer does its magic rotating the screen on both the phone and the external display. What actually happens is N96 mirroring and scaling its primary 2.8 inch display up to, you guessed it, 84 inches.

Nokia N96 has a little antenna pin secret

Nokia did a little magic with the N96 by cramming all radio possible (GSM, Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS, DVB-H) into the phone and by "outsourcing" the antennas to the back cover. Simply put, if you remove the back cover of the phone or you buy an incompatible one you're holding a brick. According to the N96 manual "Note that the Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS and DVB-H anetnnas are located in the back cover of your device. If you change the back cover, check that the new cover includes these antennas, otherwise these connections stop working". Notice the gold pin on the upper right corner of the N96. This is the phone's connection to all radio, the voice enabled, data driven internet world out there. Nokia decision to built the cellular antenna and the antenna for Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and DVB-H on the back cover is brilliant but possibly a reason for concern among the clumsy users. On the bright side, you don't have to worry when dropping the phone and possibly damaging the antenna. Poor reception and bad signal can immediately tested against a new back cover from a store or a friend. On the other hand, if you're the type of guy throwing the phone on the table and messing around with the back cover all the time, your chances to harm the antennas are greater. In any case, be aware of the antenna pin and the antennas built in the back cover. N96 certainly wins here for the testing and repair convenience of the end users. The Nster story

The Nster story. A tale of a lonely monster looking for love in this crazy, human dominated, world. No Nokia N96 was harmed during the video. Thank Nokia buddies: N810, N82, 8310, 8210 and E71, you sexy little thing. Watch the Nster video after the break.

I’m a flying ninja, Nokia N96 style

To be honest with you, i never thought i could be a ninja unless i had a pair of ninja socks but since Nokia sent me this Nokia N96 ninja costume package (where is the ninja hat?) i thought to give it a try. The idea is dead simple: Bloggers from around the globe compete in a 4 week challenge doing crazy ninja stuff and not only. The winner goes home with a big Ego and 5 Nokia N96 for his/her readers to trial! Now, how cool is that? Using the Nokia N96 for almost a week i came up with a single impression: love the phone, hate the build quality. The N96 is supposed to be Nokia's flagship Nseries mobile computer with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LEDs and a crappy camera button. Frankly speaking, i have no idea why the engineers decided to implement such a solution. The camera button needs to be pressed all the way inside the N96's body in order to take a picture. Button needs to be pressed annoyingly deep to take a picture. Where is the 2 stages (focus - take a picture) soft button like the N82 has?

Nokia N96 vs N85

[via, photo via]
