Broadcom recently announced two new ultra low power WiFi chips optimized for mobile devices such as mobile phones, PDA, mobile game devices, PMPs.

The technical details are floating online and according to the company the chips operate in full-rate 54Mbps mode with power consumption of less than 270 mW.

What is really important about the BCM4328 (802.11a/b/g) and BCM4326 (802.11b/g) is that both chips set the trend for true low power WiFi solutions. We want mobility, connectivity and longer battery life and we want it now! It seems that somebody in Silicon Valley listens to consumers and try to offer what makes sense; today.

Mobile devices get bigger screens, faster processors, new features like DVB-H and WiFi but battery life remains an issue. Fuel cells are far from being mainstream and i think i forgot to mention mobile 3D acceleration hardware.

Let the war begin with Broadcom showing the way and setting the trend for the long tail of hundreds of ultra low power chip solutions for mobile devices. Yeah, i hear you screaming Intel, Nvidia, AMD, Freescale Βρείτε τώρα τη δουλειά που σας ταιριάζει!
