Switch on/off the Firefox RSS (aka Live Bookmarks)

Firefox’s Live Bookmarks is a great tool for reading RSS feeds (aka Live Bookmarks) but there’s a little twist i’m looking for to better my great experience with that feature.
When on fast an ADSL or corporate connection, Firefox has no trouble loading all RSS feeds within seconds. The issues start when i’m on GPRS, waiting for Firefox to get all the feeds which causes the following:
- Most of the Live Bookmarks time out and never load unless i manually ask for a reload on each one of them
- My GPRS connection times out because of the high number of different simultaneous connections from my long RSS feed list
Is there an on demand solution to prevent Live Bookmarks loading whenever needed? A Firefox extension or maybe a new about:config entry?
